 Seattle University Digital Music Lab

Rafn performed a remodel of the digital music lab at Seattle University to enhance student coursework, composition, and practice.

The project included a new state-of-the-art classroom with 16 workstations, new sound isolation booth and control room, and two new office spaces.

Our work involved demolition and removal of the existing 2,000 square foot recording, classroom, and storage areas, and construction of the new spaces, all on a short 8 week schedule. Our work was also coordinated with McKinstry who was working directly with Seattle University to reconfigure and upgrade the building’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system in order to benefit the new space.

Studio Meng Strazzara designed the spaces to maximize both short and long term flexibility, allowing varied uses and additional future curriculum to be incorporated.

 Theo Chocolate Factory

Converting the Seattle Landmark Trolley Barn from its most recent use as a brewery into a chocolate processing facility was not as simple as it sounds. The biggest hurdle proved to be the budget – which more than once nearly derailed the project. Rafn researched numerous options to find the most cost effective solutions for every portion of the work.
